Rose Wood, black sumi ink
Dimensions: Approx. 6” dia x 5.5” H
About the Collection:
Created in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, In the
Gaps Left Behind reflects on loss, memory, and the quiet
transformations that follow absence. Witnessing the sudden
disappearance of an older generation within my own family
led me to consider how grief reshapes our relationships,
identities, and sense of belonging.
Inspired by coastal rocks shaped by years of wind and sea,
these sculptures embrace change as an essential part of
existence. Though transformed by time, they continue to
carry traces of what came before.
Rather than viewing absence as emptiness, the collection
considers the spaces left behind as sites of possibility, places
where memory, growth, and new experiences can coexist.
